Getting Photos Online with EasyShare

Kodak EasyShare gives you two ways to put your photos online. If you use the EasyShare software to organize your photo collection on your PC (as discussed in the previous chapter) then you can upload your pictures from the same window without missing a beat (Figure 2). Then, there’s EasyShare Gallery (www.kodakgallery.com), the online component. This site lets you upload photos using any Web browser, which is great when you’re on the road or have your browser window open anyway.

Figure 1. Online photo-service companies compete with each other, so it’s not surprising to find many similarities. For Shutterfly, and Snapfish, the emphasis is on selling photo prints and other related merchandise. (Prices are likely to vary as companies compete with one another, but as of this writing, Snapfish offered the lowest print prices.)

Uploading from the EasyShare Program

If you’ve been organizing photos on your PC using Kodak EasyShare, then uploading them to the Gallery is a snap. To post those masterpieces online, launch EasyShare, and then follow these steps:

  1. At the left side of the window, click the “My Collection” tab. You see your albums listed on the left side, and the main portion of your screen is filled with either albums or photos. (If you don’t see your albums, then click the triangle next to My Albums to expand the list.)
  2. Choose the photo(s) you want to upload. To upload an entire album, in the left pane, simply click the album and go to step 3.

Figure 6-3. The EasyShare PC software is seamlessly integrated with its online counterpart, EasyShare Gallery. Just add photos to the Task tray and click the Express Upload button and, presto, your pictures get beamed online. The Gallery also offers features for sharing photos with friends and a few easy photo fixes like cropping and red eye removal .

To upload individual photos, in the main panel, click an album to open it, and then click to select photos. Selected photos appear in the Task tray at right. To upload photos from more than one album, you can hold photos in the Task tray, so they’ll stay in the upload queue while you click another album to select more. At the top of the tray, click the leftmost button to put selected photos on hold (green checkmarks appear in the thumbnails’ lower-right corner). To take a photo off hold, select it and click the middle button. The right button removes the hold on all of the pictures in the Task tray.
  3. At the top right of the window, click the Express Upload button. EasyShare opens a dialog box where you can enter a description for the album or photos you’re uploading.
  4. Click OK. The description box closes and a new box appears to help you monitor the upload. Be patient. If you have several large files, then uploading may take a while. When the upload is finished, you’re invited to view your photos in the Gallery.
