Photoshop Tips: Navigating to Your Photos Using the Bridge

The Adobe Bridge has five built-in “layouts” for different working styles (Adobe calls them “workspaces”), and the default Bridge layout is divided into two main sections: (1) the main window that displays thumbnail versions of your photos; (2) a Panel area to the left of that (with palettes for navigating to your photos, for seeing larger previews of your thumbnails, and for viewing metadata and adding keywords). We’ll look at this default layout and special built-in workspaces that have been designed to make navigating to your images even easier.

Navigating to Your Photos

The left side of the Bridge is called the Panel area (although they’re really palettes, they’re just not “floating palettes”like the rest of the palettes in Photoshopbecause they have to stay within the Panel area). The top-left palette is the Favorites, which is designed to give you direct access to your most-used applications and image folders. Nested right behind this palette is the Folders palette, which you use to locate photos on your digital camera’s memory card, on your hard drive, on a CD of images, a network driveyou name it. The idea behind this palette is simple: It gives you access to your digital camera images without having to leave the Bridge. To access the photos inside a folder from here, just click once on the folder.

Photoshop Tips: Bridge Basics

Okay, we’ve backed up our originals and burned them to CD, we’ve created a contact sheet to keep track of all our images on that CD; so now we’re going to open the images right from the CD using the Adobe Bridge (which is technically a separate application that we can use to sort and categorize our digital camera images). If you’re familiar with the File Browser from previous versions, it’s an evolution of it, but it has more features, and best of all, also manages images for use in other Adobe applications.

Photoshop Tips: Creating a Contact Sheet for Your CD Jewel Case

Okay, your CD of digital negatives is burned; but before you go any further, you can save yourself a lot of time and frustration down the road if you create a CD-jewel-case-sized contact sheet now. That way, when you pick up the CD, you’ll see exactly what’s on the disc before you even insert it into your computer. Luckily, the process of creating this contact sheet is automated, and after you make a few decisions on how you want your contact sheet to look, Photoshop takes it from there.

Photoshop Tips: Saving Your Digital Negatives

Okay, I know this is the Adobe Bridge post, but before you even open the Bridge, you’ve got to save your digital negatives to CD. Don’t open the photos, adjust them, choose your favorites, and then burn them to a CD; burn them nowright off the bat. These are your “digital negatives,” which are no different from the negatives you’d get from a film lab after they’ve processed your film. By burning a CD now, before you enter the Bridge, you’re creating a set of digital negatives that can never be accidentally erased or discardedyou’ll always have these digital negatives. Here’s how:

Organizing Photos with Flickr

You’ve uploaded your photos to Flickr and now its time to get organized. On your Flickr home page (www.flickr.com), you see a few of your photos and others under the heading: “Everyone’s photos.” In the upper-left corner are some links to other pages:

  • Home. Flickr’s home page is a no-nonsense, bare bones screen with big, clear links to the pages where the real business takes place: uploading photos, and viewing photos (yours or everyone else’s). When Flickr has any news or announcements to tell you about, you’ll read it here first.
  • Tags. In Flickr, these keywords or phrases are your primary tool for both organizing and searching for photos. But they’re much more than that. In Flickr’s lively online community, tags are a basic unit of currency. Most members add several tags to each photo they upload, hoping to see and be seen by folks all over the world with similar interests. On the Tags page, Flickr displays current lists of the most popular tags for the past 24 hours, past week, and all-time favorite tags.
  • Groups, People, Invite. These pages connect you to Flickr groups, your friends, and your family for sharing your photos. The invite page makes it easy to lure your pals to Flickr; fill out a simple form and Flickr sends them an email.

Digital SLR Telephoto Lenses

For some reason, almost everyone starting out in photography wants a big telephoto lens. Are we compensating for some inadequacy? Probably not, but they look darn impressive and lend a professional look to the photographer carrying one around in the field (Figure 1).

Figure 1. A telephoto lens, like this Canon 500mm, is ideal for capturing wildlife, but it’s also useful in other types of photography.

The Perfect Monitor for Designer and Digital Photographer

I have a buddy who are also doing a lot of photo editing. Unfortunately for him, his current flat screen CRT caused havoc with his eyesight over the years of using. That’s such a pity. As an avid photographer, we know that a large part of digital photography involves editing images on our computer. For us to be able to do our job nicely, we really need to look at the factors that influence monitor choice.

We need to have the ability to see our image file on-screen with accureta color and tone. We also need to ensure that what we see on-screen is very close to our printed images. The last thing we want is having a lot of printing wastage. What we really need is a simply perfect monitors for designers (with reasonable price, that is :mrgreen: ).

That’s why I recommend my friend to check wize.com. If you want to buy things especially gadget and electronics, then I bet you’ll do your research. Product research is actualy the fifth most common use in the internet, which is conducted every single day by more than 17 million Americans. This is why wize.com will come in handy. It offers a cool way to conduct product research which is way much better than using a search engine. Wize.com saves your time and allows you to make better product decisions.

If you want to buy monitor, whether you are a designer or photographer, then wize.com is the perfect place for you. You will find that each product on Wize.com is presented along with reviews and links back to the original sources. The website consolidates high-quality expert and consumer-written reveiews including for monitors.

Designers and digital photographers used to favor CRT monitors for their color and tonal accuracy. However, nowadays it is becoming difficult to find ones. LCD monitors are becoming monitors for designers as well as digital photographer with many better benefit offering.

  • LCD monitors can deliver more consistent tonal scale
  • They can produce perfectly sharp images without any geometric distortions.
  • The color values remain relatively stable over time
  • They are easier on your eyes since they are flicker-free
  • Their native interface is ideal for digital applications
  • They are ligher and take up less space than CRTs

So, is it wrong then to having a CRT monitor? Absolutely not, of course. LCD monitor still have a few disadvantages:

  • Their contrast and colour can change with viewing angle. Say your editing your image with friends. But I guess you tend to view your screen straigth-on.
  • Individual pixels may ‘die’, causing tiny permanent black dots to appear on the screen. However, this is rarely happen.

Samsung monitor for designer

Figure 1. Samsung 226BW 22-Inch Digital/Analog Widescreen LCD Monitor. A perfect choice for Digital Photographer

Professional LCD monitors can be distinguished by 10-bit (or higher) gamma processing, whereas other displays offer only 8-bit support. This difference is significant. Whereas a monitor with 8-bit processing can only calibrate the gamma curve in 256 steps, a 10-bit processor can calculate the gamma curve in 1021 steps. The result will be a smoother gamma curve and greater hue and tonal accuracy. Expect to pay a premium price for a monitor with 10-bit gamma processing.

A quick-and-easy way to see whether a monitor is suitable for imaging is to check the range of adjustments it provides. The ability to calibrate and profile a monitor depends on being able to adjust both brightness and contrast as well as independently adjusting the red, green and blue colour channels. Some monitors are sold with one or more of these controls locked and this prevents accurate profiling.

One of the most important thing with a monitors for designers is that it can be calibrated and is stable. When your monitor is calibrated to display colours accurately, it’s also easier to obtain consistent quality from edited prints if somebody else prints them - or uses them in an online application.

How to Cut Your Startup Business Printed Material Cost

online printing
My friend has to admit: starting a new business is not as fun as she had ever imagine before. There are so many unexpected cost to make her business run properly. Luckily, she is doing the thing that she like, so I think she can manage to hold on.

However, she still have to look for ways to cut her business expenses. One way she can think of it is to re-evaluate how she spend money on any printed materials such as:
* Brochures
* Business cards
* Catalogs
* Price lists
* Flyers/postcards
* Sales sheets

In her business, and I guess in every business, one must maintain contact with customers. But one does not have to use the conventional ways. And my friend has found one efficient way: that is to start a newsletter in order to reduce the cost of stamps of mail letters. To my amazement, by learning to use online technology, she gain the ability to find new programs and many other ways to maintain my customer. Recently, my friend learn how to reach out the visitors with simple stuff like email and blogging.

Getting traditional printer to make business cards is quite expensive that my friend just can’t afford. Meanwhile, online printing services do not have the overhead you usually encounter. PsPrint.com is one leading online printing service around. Interesting enough, they offer a free sample pack so you can evaluate their products’ quality yourself. If you satisfied with the sample pack, you can use their value-added services such as direct list creation, graphic design, direct mail fulfillment and many more. The price is very competitive as well, which matters a lot :-)
